Vancouver Stealth add three more free agents, and you’d think more would be coming

The Vancouver Stealth announced the signing of three more free agents on Wednesday, adding defender Travis Cornwall, forward Colton Clark and goaltender Adam Shute.
National Lacrosse League contracts aren’t guaranteed, but you’d figure all three would have a shot at making the Stealth’s main roster, especially coming off a year where they missed the playoffs, at 5-13. And, as the tweet from general manager Doug Locker so strongly suggest, more signings are likely coming.
Cornwall played formerly in the winter league with the Calgary Roughnecks, while Clark was with the Colorado Mammoth.
Locker has started to rebuild a defence that gave up a league-worst 57 shots a game in 2015. Matt Beers is slated to return after taking year off for work commitments, while Locker nabbed veteran Ian Hawksbee from Colorado in free agency already.
The athletic Cornwall could help that back-door unit, especially with their transition game. Another interesting free agent who would fit in that group? Cornwall’s brother Jeff, who is a restricted free agent with the Saskatchewan Rush. The former Edmonton Rush have arguably the league’s best personnel on D, so another team might be able to pry Cornwall away.
Below is the press release:

The Vancouver Stealth announced today that the team has signed free agents Travis Cornwall, Colton Clark, and Adam Shute.

Travis Cornwall is a familiar name to lower mainland lacrosse fans having spent his junior career with his hometown Coquitlam Junior Adanacs.  Cornwall was a member of the 2010 Minto Cup Champion team. During his five year Junior A career, he scored 102 goals, 147 assists, and 249 total points.  Cornwall played the past four seasons in the National Lacrosse League with the Calgary Roughnecks appearing in 43 regular season games and 9 post season games scoring 14 goals, 17 assists for 31 points.

Stealth President and General Manager Doug Locker commented on the added versatility Cornwall brings to the team,

“If there was ever a player who could fill a variety of roles it is Travis.  We are extremely excited to have him join the Stealth.  It’s great for another BC product to come back to Vancouver to represent his home team and we are looking for big things from him this coming season.”

Colton Clark was originally drafted in the first round (9th overall) by the Colorado Mammoth in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.  He played two seasons in Colorado appearing in 18 games in 2013 and 2014.  In that time, Clark had 3 goals, 6 assists with 71 loose balls.  Prior to his time with the Mammoth, the Nanaimo native suited up for his hometown Timbermen in the BCJALL and played for Bellarmine University (NCAA Division 1).

Adam Shute is a goalie who comes to the Stealth after spending the 2015 season on the Rush practice roster.  Shute was originally drafted in the second round (13th overall) in the 2014 NLL Entry Draft by the Rush and is a graduate of New England College (Division III).

“In signing Colton and Adam we add two players who are ready to play in the NLL,” said Locker.  He continued, “Colton has had a terrific summer and is a player who can contribute in many ways for us.  He is dynamic, can score goals, play defense and has very good speed.  Likewise, we have been impressed with Adam all summer and feel he is ready to compete for a spot on our roster this season.”
